AN INTRODUCTION TO THIS PHOTO ADVENTURE
Come join Nature’s Photo Adventures for a wonderful photographic journey through some of the most rugged and beautiful terrain in Canada. Our extensive knowledge and photographic experience will be shared with you in small group settings for personal and educational instruction.
Alberta is home to more than 500 species of wildlife. They occupy the six natural regions of the province - boreal forests, mountains, foothills, parklands, and grasslands and the small area of the Canadian Shield in the extreme northeastern corner of the province.
Don’t miss this spectacular opportunity to photograph some of the most amazing wildlife and inspiring landscapes that Canada has to offer.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Keep your eyes open and ears alert because you are more than likely going to see an abundance of wildlife on this workshop. Most commonly spotted are deer, Big Horn Sheep, elk, and black bears. To ensure your safety we do not feed the wildlife and keep a safe distance when taking pictures. Though the animals seem tame, they still show aggressive territorial behaviors especially during mating season. Animals that frequent the park include: Elk, Bighorn Sheep, Mule Deer, Black Bears, Grizzly Bears, Cougars, Coyotes, Foxes and Wolves.
On this workshop we will be focusing on photographing Elk in rut and the beautiful black bear in their natural habitat going about their daily lives of foraging for food and raising their young. Depending on the food supply and the berry crop, we should have multiple opportunities to photograph this awesome creature. Other species that we will likely see and photograph will include Bighorn Sheep, moose and possibly wolves. We will also be taking a day trip to a little known place where it is a very high probability that we will get up close and personal with Mountain Goats against spectacular backdrops. Along with the Mountain Goats we should also see and photograph Pikas and Marmots.
We will be visiting one of the lesser known and travelled National Parks for our workshop. Just as beautiful and productive as Jasper with awe inspiring landscapes including shining glaciers, snow capped mountains, crystal blue lakes, sprawling evergreen forests and towering waterfalls. Our guide for this trip has a lifetime of experience within this area and will take us to all of the best locations for photography.
On this photo adventure we will focus on photographing the following species:
Elk in Rutting Season (September) – Join us to witness what has been called "Alberta's most spectacular watchable wildlife ritual". Each
fall in Waterton Lakes National Park. More than 1,000 elk come out of the
mountains from as far away as Montana to converge as one huge herd for
their autumn mating ritual. What makes this event so special is that you can watch it happen right in front of your eyes and photograph these incredible animals up close!
Black Bears – Accessible in their natural environment like nowhere else in Canada! See them with their cubs foraging and frolicking amongst the flowers and bushes.
Bighorn Sheep – One of the finest places on earth to photograph Bighorn Sheep in their natural surroundings
Moose – Capture this beast of the forest in awesome settings from lake edges to forest edges and in colorful fields.
Spruce Grouse – Highly likely to see and photograph (territorial displays and aggression during the June workshop).
Deer – The deer in this area are beautiful in the fall and there are fawns in June.
Wolves – Not a high probability, but knowing you might see or hear them is awesome.
Pikas and Marmots - cute little mammals that are very photogenic!
